Laya (n.): speed or tempo, the union of sound
Laya of Berkeley is a unique music club at the University of California, Berkeley. Founded in 2015, we aim to bring the intricacies and flows of Carnatic and Hindustani classical music to the diverse, cosmopolitan environment of Cal and the larger Bay Area. Comprised of vocalists and instrumentalists, we perform pure classical pieces as well as fusions with other classical and Western styles. We also invite and host professionals and performers in lectures and concerts. In all our endeavors we hope to find and foster the rhythm of Berkeley and bring different parts of the world together through our art.
